Cheap hair dye!

I'm always dying my hair. It used to be because I didn't like being dirty blonde (still don't actually) but now it's because I'm starting to get grays. Boo gray hair! I love changing the color though, and I've found that black and red are my two favorite shades to be. The problem is, hair dye can cost $9 a box or more and don't even get me started on salon prices. However, I've recently been able to get hair dye for $2-$3 a box. How? Coupons!

How I do it:

Right now, as I type this, Target is having a sale on John Frieda hair dye: buy two boxes and get a $5 Target gift card. The boxes are $11.99 each, meaning you have to spend $23.98 to get that $5 gift card. In last week's newspaper there's a manufacture coupon for $5 off John Frieda hair dye, dropping the price down to $6.99 per box. Go online to http://www.target.com and print up the Target coupon for $5 off JF hair dye. You're price per box is now $1.99! If you have enough coupons to get two boxes (two manufacture coupons and two Target coupons), then your total is $3.98.......but Target is giving you a $5 gift card. In a way, Target is paying you $1.02 to take that over priced hair dye out of the store!

Another deal you can get, also at Target, is for the Loreal Sublime Mouse hair dye. Target has coupons online for $2 off, and the paper had manufacture coupons for $3. That's $5 off per box and when it's on sale for $7.99, you can get that hair dye for just $2.99.

I can't help but buy the hair dye when it's so cheap. Right now I think I have 5 boxes stashed under my bathroom sink, maybe more.

Extreme Couponing = OMG

I finally got around to watching Extreme Couponing on TLC. Firstly, let me say these people are crazy. There's no reason to need so much stuff if you have a small family. (Dear lady with the 7 kids, please use your couponing skills to buy some shampoo. Your hair looked nasty.) The only lady I liked on there was the one that would donate some of her finds to charity. Every one of the people on there seemed to have a hoarding complex, allotting several rooms in the house (or their kid's room and their own in the case of one woman) to the storage of the items they purchase with coupons. Crazy!

However, all my snide comments aside, I want to know how they do it. I don't want cart loads of stuff (Really? Do you really need 72 bottles of mustard?) that will just expire in my fridge, but I'd like to buy the stuff I regularly use, and stuff that is healthy for my kiddo, for dirt cheap. I use the websites, and I'm aware of coupon policies, but I feel like I'm missing this key element on how to make my couponing adventure a success.

A side note: I watched Hoarding: Buried Alive before Extreme Couponing and now I want to clean and purge my house of items I don't need. That's why I usually don't watch those type of shows because it's not like my house is cluttered to begin with.

My couponing finds for 4/17/11:
Went to CVS, Target, and BiLo on Sunday, and only spent $9.
At CVS I bought 2 M&M eggs and a pack of plastic Easter eggs, and thanks to my Extra Bucks I only paid $0.10. Yep, ten cents!
At BiLo, I used a coupon to get a two pack of Olay soap for free. All I had to pay was the $0.15 tax.
Target was the expensive one, but I got two bags of the Purina One Beyond cat food, plus four cans of cat food for $8.78. One bag of that food was on sale for $7-something, and I had coupons which made it $3-something per bag. And the canned cat food was BOGO.

I started couponing on April 3. I have already saved $85.40!
(Total before savings = $125.80. Total after coupons = $40.40)

CVS deals!

It seems that CVS has the best deals, espcially when you have their ExtraCare card. Today, I saved $17.99 and only spent $2.68 thanks to the $5.99 I had in CVS rewards plus the $4.50 in coupons. Hair dye, olive oil, brownie mix, and bubbles for my son's Easter basket was what I got. The hair dye alone makes is usually over $8!

Yard Sale!

I love yard sales. It's the only time I can find stuff for dirt cheap and haggle the price even lower. No, I don't always haggle. Just sometimes.

Today Sangaree had a subdivision-wide yard sale. The Sangaree tax district got a list together of all the homes that were going to participate and put a list together, complete with a map. Over 100 addresses were listed. Cool! We started at 8am and by noon we had only hit a little over 50 of the stops. By noon, we (being my mom and I) were exhausted and decided to call it a day. Well, exhausted and broke. LoL

Here's what I got and for what price:

Pooh's Heffalump Movie = $1
Little People Fun Sounds Farm = $4
Plastic Tigger = $0.25
Grumpy Bear Carebear = $0.25
Two 2 inch binders = $0.50
High School Musical 3 Dance mat = $2
My total = $8

My mom bought my son a Little Tikes Cookin Sounds Gormet Kitchen (including dishes) for $30.

Now for the coolness of it all. Both the kitchen and the farm are in fantastic shape and came with all the accessories. That Little Tikes Cookin Sounds Gourmet Kitchen looks brand new, and is currently selling for $80 at most stores. I just saved (actually, my mom saved) $50! And that Little People Farm, well that retails at $40. I just saved $36!

We just spent $34 on two items that would have cost us $120 had we bought it new.

And that is why I love yard sales. :o)

Strawberry picking

My mom and I took Cam strawberry picking at Charpia Farms today. I love going there. The people are always so nice and the strawberries are to die for. Cam had a great time, and he was just so cute picking his strawberries. However, when he bit into one... Poor little guy. I guess he's just not a strawberry baby. :o) After making a face, he tried to put the strawberry back on the bush. LoL
